HAZARD, Ky. (LEX 18)-- The judge-executive has declared a State of Emergency in Perry County after heavy rains lead to serious flooding.

The flood waters have settled and returned to a somewhat calm state, but the emergency management director says homes have been damaged and people have been displaced due to the dangerous water this weekend.

Director Jerry Stacy says its difficult to say exactly how much was affected by the weekend flooding, but he knows at least a handful of homes experienced major damage. Fortunately, no serious injuries or deaths came out of the flooding.

Stacy says his department will be visiting and reaching out to residents while they assess and tally up the damage for the next few days.

"Any time that water gets in to anybody's home, its a bad situation. And uh, we have had some of that. inevitably, you're going to have some landslides and mudslides and so forth, that has affected a few roads as well."

For anyone in the area who's facing unsafe living conditions, or have been displaced, Stacy says a Red Cross is set up at the Presbyterian Church on High Street for anyone who needs assistance
