Crime Stoppers: Bandit Steals Mink Coat From Consignment Store

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) Lexington Police say that a woman stole a $1,200 mink coat from a consignment store near Fayette Mall last month in broad daylight.

"They keep those locked up. They had other people in the store milling around, so the clerk couldn't give her undivided attention to that specific location, so she went over and unlocked the door and let her browse through the coats," said Detective Mark Thomas.

Police say she eventually found on she'd try to smuggle out of there. They say she was with an adult male and what are believed to be her children.

"She takes a dress off of a different rack, that her daughter, I guess, wanted to purchase, and she arranges for the gentleman to purchase that dress as a smaller purchase, which takes the attention off the fact that she has a 12 hundred dollar mink coat stuffed up her shirt," said Detective Thomas.

Detective Thomas said he has no reason to believe the man was an accomplice or even aware.
