Delay Sought In Sen. Paul Assault Case

Posted: Updated:

(BOWLING GREEN DAILY NEWS) — The neighbor accused of assaulting U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was due to make his initial appearance in U.S. District Court later the month, but now that could be delayed.

The Bowling Green Daily News reports here that the special prosecutor on the case against Rene Boucher has requested the Feb. 23 date be delayed.

The motion was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bowling Green by Bradley Shepard, an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.

He cited conflicts with other cases on his docket.

Boucher, 58, of Bowling Green, is charged with assaulting a member of Congress resulting in a personal injury in a Nov. 3 incident.

The two men are longtime neighbors.

Boucher has signed an agreement signaling his intent to plead guilty to the charge.

Federal prosecutors intend to pursue a 21-month prison sentence for Boucher.
