Rash Of School Threats Prompts Warning From Ky. State Police

Posted: Updated:

(LEX 18) — A spate of school threats across the region has brought concern, arrests and now a warning from Kentucky State Police.

Trooper Robert Purdy, a public affairs officer with the state law enforcement agency, issued a plea and a warning Monday morning on social media.

The post comes in response to multiple cases of threats being made related to schools in the wake of the deadly shootings in Parkland, Florida, and Marshall County in western Kentucky.

In Jessamine County, two teens were arrested after online threats were made over the weekend. Tristan Kelly, 18, and Cody Ritchey, 19, are facing terroristic threatening charges.

In Clay County, a middle school student reportedly is in custody after making threats in a post on Facebook, according to the Manchester Enterprise.

A 17-year-old also is in custody after allegedly making threats toward the Whitley County School District.

In Knox County, three people were arrested for threats on social media. Two girls, ages 13 and 16, allegedly made the threats in an effort to get school canceled. A Corbin woman, 19-year-old Megan Scott, was also arrested in the case.

Other threats were reported in Estill County, Fleming County High School, and elsewhere.

Purdy warns the threats will bring felony charges and swift consequences.
