FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — The troubled Martin County Water District will get a multimillion-dollar boost from a project announced Saturday afternoon.

The offices of Gov. Matt Bevin and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers announced a $3.4 million project to help fix the problems that have plagued the system.

According to news releases, the project will create various improvements, including the addition of a second water intake in Tug Fork River and updates to the Crum Reservoir.

The project will be funded through grants and administered by the Kentucky Division of Abandoned Mine Lands.

“Our team, including the Energy and Environment Cabinet and the Department of Local Government, worked closely with Congressman Rogers to craft a solution that addresses the water supply issues in Martin County,” Bevin said in a statement.
