Five Kentucky volleyball players are set to participate in the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts taking place March 2-4 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Gabby Curry, Leah Edmond, Madison Lilley, Brooke Morgan and Avery Skinner will be among 229 athletes from 90 colleges participating.
The athletes are vying for spots on the U.S. Women’s National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Teams program.
Head coach Craig Skinner has enjoyed a great tradition of players earning a selection to various teams within the U.S. program, including Edmond and Curry on the U.S. U20 World Championship team a year ago. Kaz Brown, Ashley Dusek, Morgan Bergren, Whitney Billings, Ashley Frazier, Stephanie Klefot, Alexandra Morgan, Jackie Napper and Sarah Rumely have all been selected to various U.S. teams.
Dusek will train with the US Women’s National Team in mid-March.
All sessions of the tryout will be streamed live here. The red group will begin tryouts on Friday at 4 p.m. ET, the White group at 6 p.m. ET, and the Blue group at 8:10 p.m. ET. Curry, Edmond and Lilley will tryout in the white group while Brooke Morgan and Avery Skinner will compete with the red group.
Selected athletes for the U.S. Women’s National Team may begin their training in Anaheim, California, as early as the spring of 2018, or when an athlete’s scholastic or professional club season has concluded. Selections will be made by the end of March.
