SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) – One woman is dead after a single-vehicle collision.

It happened Thursday on I-64 eastbound around the 32 mile marker  in Shelby County.

Kentucky State Police say the preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle driven by Jessica L. Carter, 26, of Lawrenceburg, was traveling east on I-64 near the 28 mm when an SUV passed her and pulled in front of her. Carter then passed the SUV and pulled in front of it. The SUV passed Carter again and debris started coming from the SUV. Carter, along with other motorists started to swerve to miss the objects.

Carter reportedly lost control of her vehicle around the 31 mm and went off the roadway on the right shoulder. The vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest upside down on the right shoulder. KSP say the SUV continued eastbound and did not stop.

Carter was transported to University of Louisville where she was later pronounced deceased.

KSP are seeking any information about the SUV (described as tan in color) or any other parties who may have witnessed or were involved in the events leading up to the fatal collision. If you have any information that could help you are asked to contact KSP, Post 12 at (502) 227-2221, attention to Tpr. Johnson Unit 1133.
