Firearms Instructors Offer Free Training For Teachers

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Ky.(LEX 18) - As lawmakers across the US continue the debate over whether teachers should carry guns in school, two Kentucky firearms instructors are offering their skills to ensure safety comes first.

Firearms instructors Ron Goodpaster and Marty Dailey tell LEX 18 that they're not specifically for or against teachers carrying firearms, but what they are for, is safety.

The idea of the free CCDW classes for educators comes on the heels of the recent school shootings.  Goodpaster says the class will offer about 4 hours of basic pistol safety, an hour on the range, and another hour with help from law enforcement.

Once teachers complete the course, Dailey and Goodpaster say they're aiming for the same outcome that thousands of their past students learned.

"We want to help them develop the skills, attitude and knowledge to handle firearms safely, if the legislature or school authority allows them to have guns in school," Goodpaster told LEX 18.
