Goat On The Run: Houdini- The I-65 Goat

Posted: Updated:

HARDIN COUNTY, Ky (WAVE 3) Officers in Hardin County have been on the lookout for him for years, but he isn't the usual suspect.

"We would call animal control and state police, and every time they'd come to get him, he's gone," said construction worker Peggy Gross. "Houdini-- the I-65 Goat. He's our pet out here."

Houdini really likes the construction equipment.

"He might come over here and check out the work zone," Gross said. "He's there, me and him and we kinda do a standoff, stare at one another," said Gross.

Although he is called their "pet", no one has claimed him as their own. Houdini doesn't belong to anyone.

He is great at disappearing and not being hit by cars.

"He's smart, he won't get in the road, he'll get up next to the road, but he won't get in it or anything. he just stays under the bridge back and forth," said Gross.

Houdini the I-65 Goat even has his own Facebook page with over 20,000 likes.

"He does what he wants and we're jealous, so we look up to him. He's our hero. He's inside of all of us," said Tom Pitt creator of the Facebook page.

Pitt says that this inspirational goat can teach everyone to take it easy.

"He's not worried about the economy, he's not worried about what people are doing," Pitt said. "He's worried about doing him, he's worried about doing Houdini."

If you see him on I-65, standing on the barrier of the bridge over the Nolin River or standing on the construction equipment, don't bother trying to turn him in to the authorities. He'll be gone before you know it.

While you're there, you can also make a small donation to raise money for childhood cancer research via St. Baldrick's and receive a "Houdini, the I-65 Goat" bumper sticker for your car.
