LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — In response to a recent hoarding situation uncovered in Lexington, the Lexington Hospital for Cats will hold a special supply drive for the Humane Society.
Officers responded to reports of animal cruelty Wednesday afternoon at a home on Sundart Drive. The investigation started Tuesday when a tip led officers to a home with a horrible smell inside.
Officials say after obtaining a warrant they discovered over 100 cats inside, some of them pregnant.
An official with the cat hospital said Saturday's drop off garnered 700 pounds of cat litter, about 500 cans of food and $785 to be donated to the Humane Society.
To help the influx of cats, the hospital will be open again Sunday, March 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. for anyone to drop off donations.
Items needed include cat litter, canned cat food, canned tuna, canned chicken, litter boxes, cat toys, paper towels, bleach, towels, blankets and pet beds. They will also accept cash and checks.
They are located at 271 Southland Drive in Lexington.
