BOYLE COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Boyle County High School will receive a $10,000 grant for their theater arts program.
It is part of a nationwide campaign called the Rise America Grant Initiative. it is based on a new show coming to LEX 18 in a few weeks.
Boyle County is one of 50 schools in the country to receive this $10,000 grant that will help the theater arts at the school. What they will do with the money is still unknown.
Teachers in Boyle County found out last week that they had won, but they need to keep mum about the money.
It all coincides with NBC's new drama about a high school theater program called, "Rise".
For Boyle County, teachers say that this proposal was all done by students, so they're just as vested in the program as the teachers.
"It's all about giving teenagers a voice. they really find their voice in theater. teachers will go up to me and say 'I can't believe you got so-and-so to do a part.' someone who hasn't said a word in class is up on stage," said teacher Frieda Gebert.
Principal Mark Wade said that it was not a shock they won the grant.
"We have some great students, a great community, and I've seen the work they put forward to put on some of these plays," he said.
