Hepatitis A Exposure Alert At Boyd Co. Waffle House Locations

Posted: Updated:

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Health officials are investigating the diagnosis of Hepatitis A in an employee who worked at two Waffle House locations in Boyd County.

The Ashland-Boyd County Health Department said Wednesday that the employee worked at both Waffle House locations during a period when he might have been infectious. The health agency said that window was from Feb. 12 to 28.

It notes that the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it can take as long as 50 days from the time from exposure before a patient exhibits symptoms.

Symptoms include fatigue, nausea, jaundice, stomach pain and lack of appetite.

The agency says there is a two-week window from exposure for people to receive a vaccine for the virus. In this case, it says, the last day for the vaccine would be March 13.

Anyone experience symptoms is encouraged to see a doctor.
