Humane Society Finds Puppies Of New Dog Mom

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Workers spent the evening going door-to-door in the area and finally located the owner. The mother dog is reunited with her eight healthy pups.

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (LEX 18) - An animal shelter is trying to locate the owner of a dog that just had puppies.

Volunteers in Montgomery County hope the owner of the lost dog sees this story, and brings her back home.

For now, the Gateway Area Humane Society in Mount Sterling is her home.

"She is a great dog. She is a wonderful dog. She's very laid back, easy to take care of. Been no problem at all today," said Pam Reynolds, the president of GAHS.

Reynolds says just by looking at her mammary glands, she is a new mom.

When Reynolds arrived for work this morning, she was surprised to see this pup lying in the doorway, left behind by a woman who passed her on a road.

The people who dropped the dog off at the Humane Society said that she was found somewhere along Spencer Road. The problem is, they don't know where on the road.

"But I noticed that she had a wagging tail, so I knew it was okay to come through the doors," said Reynolds.

As sweet as the dog is, Reynolds is not just trying to find her a good home, she wants to find her owner and the dog's puppies.

"There's little puppies out there that are not gonna make it, maybe, if they don't have their mother," said Reynolds.

While the new mother waits at the shelter, Reynolds says they're giving her a healthy diet to put weight back on and a warm place to sleep until, hopefully, that call comes.

If you know the owner, or would like to contact the Gateway Area Humane Society, you can call 859-497-1438.
