Teachers Rally In Frankfort

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) - Teachers from across the state gathered in Frankfort Friday to show legislators why, they think, they should override Governor Bevin's veto of the budget bill.

As teachers waited to get inside the capitol annex, a deputy rounded the corner to announce that someone had parked in Governor Matt Bevin's spot, prompting laughter from the protestors.

An itinerary was handed out with a schedule of the protest's events. Only 500 people are allowed in the annex at a time, so those outside chanted and sang.

Rallies were held in several counties Thursday.

In Danville, hundreds of educators and supporters of teachers from Boyle County, Mercer County, Danville Independent and the Kentucky School for the Deaf rallied with signs, cheers and plenty of honks from passing cars.

LEX 18  also caught up with educators in Laurel County, which is among the many school districts not calling off class for protests this morning.

Kentucky lawmakers finalized the override of Gov. Matt Bevin's veto Friday.
