BATH COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) - A Powell County man was booked into the Montgomery County Regional Jail on Saturday after an alleged crime spree, including assaulting multiple law enforcement officers.

Owingsville Police received a complaint just before 7:30 Saturday morning that a white Ford pickup had been stolen from Owingsville Town & Country Food Mart. An officer attempted to locate the vehicle on KY 36 East toward Menifee County after getting reports from witnesses. The officer eventually found the vehicle on Pistol Road behind a home and observed the subject fitting the description of the man that had stolen the vehicle take off running into the woods. That man was later identified as Taylor Smith of Powell County. The officer then pursued Smith through the woods for about two miles.

A K-9 officer arrived to assist in the search as well as Bath County Sheriffs deputies and Kentucky State Police. Officers continued a foot pursuit for another two miles with the K-9 helping track Smith's scent.

An Owingsville officer then pursued Smith through a residence he entered off KY 36. The officer reported Smith then ran across the highway towards Mudlick Road and attempted to steal two vehicles before finally being caught.

Officers report Smith assaulted officers as they were restraining him, leaving officers with minor injuries. Smith was believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine during the incident.
