AG Beshear Releases Video Update On Pension Lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) - Posting what he promised to be one of many updates in the lawsuit against SB 151, Attorney General Andy Beshear announced a hearing date in the case.

Beshear filed a lawsuit against the controversial sewage turned pension bill, saying the process in which the bill was passed violated the "inviolable contract" between the state and teachers.

Besides its claim of violating the inviolable contract, the lawsuit says the process used to pass the bill lacked a required actuarial analysis and violated parts of the Kentucky Constitution

The first hearing will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Franklin Circuit Court.

Beshear estimates that a schedule for the case will also be set and will hopefully allow the chance for a judge to grant the injunction to stop the bill.

"I'm going to argue as hard as I can every single hearing to have this bill thrown out," Beshear said during the video.
