Service Dog Killed After Neighborhood Dog Attacks

Posted: Updated:

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) - A service dog is dead and her owner says another dog in the neighborhood is responsible.

The attack happened in Madison County just North of Richmond. Cindy Rusch told LEX 18 that she never went anywhere without her service dog, Poopie. Sunday, the two got in the family's golf cart yesterday just to go for a little ride.

Cindy says the pair never made it more than 3 or 4 houses down when she says a dog attacked them. The tiny-seven pound dachshund was seriously hurt and died in Cindy's arms as they drove to the vet.

Cindy's girlfriend can still barely talk about the incident without crying.

"She meant the world to us. She would alert me whenever she went into any type of a seizure or was having any difficulty at all. She suffers from autism, Asperger's and has seizures," Angel Pasquino tells LEX 18.

State Police responded to the scene and a report was filed, but Troopers say the case is in the hands of animal control or civil court.

"I'm angry, I"m very angry and very hurt at the same time that this had to happen to her. She weighed seven pounds, that's it. Just a small little dachshund," said Pasquino.
