Support For Transylvania University Could Win You A Trip To 'American Animals' Premiere

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - A major motion picture that is based on the real-life Transylvania University Book Heist is coming to theatres. The group that made the film is raising funds for the Lexington college's special book collections and it will give the chance for a donor to fly out to a red carpet premiere.

"American Animals" is loosely based on the story of four young Lexington men who stole rare books and works of art, including prints by artist John James Audubon, from Transy's Library. They were caught after they tried to sell them at Christie's Auction House.

At 19 and 20 years old Warren Lipka, Chas Allen, Eric Borsuk and Spencer Reinhard stunned, blindfolded and tied up a librarian to steal the priceless books and art.

All four men served 7 1/2 years in federal prison.

If you donate to a campaign to help the Transylvania University Library's Special Collections, you can win a chance to get some amazing prizes.

You and friend could:

  • Meet Evan Peters, Blake Jenner and Jared Abrahamson at the premiere of American Animals and steal some pics with the heist movie stars
  • Hit the red carpet, watch the film surrounded by the cast and crew that made it, and celebrate at the official after-party
  • Get flown out to NYC and put up in a 4-star hotel
