New Hepatitis A Case At Mount Sterling Restaurant

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (LEX 18) — Another restaurant employee in the commonwealth has been diagnosed with hepatitis A.

This latest case is at Lee's Famous Recipe in Mount Sterling.

The Montgomery County Health Department sent a warning on its Facebook page Monday about the hepatitis A risk. Officials say an employee fell ill recently and was diagnosed with hepatitis A.

The health department says the employee was not directly involved with food preparation at the restaurant.

"Makes me want to eat at home," said Montgomery County resident Barbara Wilson. "I think I'll do my own cooking for a while, which I would anyway. We just eat out sometimes."

Managers at Lee's Famous Recipe tell LEX 18 that after the diagnosis the health department did a sweeping review of safety and health measures at the restaurant. A manager says the restaurant received a perfect score of 100.

The health department says the risk of contracting the disease from a visit to the restaurant is very low. However, anyone who visited between April 25 and May 11 should watch for signs of the illness, including vomiting, jaundice and weight loss.

There is a two-week window for anyone with possible exposure to receive the hepatitis A vaccine.
