Family Hopes For Recovery Following Life-Saving Accident

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Loved ones say a Montgomery County man risked his life to save another. But one month later, Jason Lee is still in the hospital, and his family fears he may never walk again.

For the past month, Good Samaritan Hospital has been home for Kem Lee, and her injured husband, Jason.

Kem says April 10 started out as a normal day. Jason got up and went to work on a third party project at Eastern Kentucky University.

She says he was on a ladder, trying to lift a heavy wrench off a pipe, when the wrench slipped.

"He leaned over, we think, to grab the pipe wrench so it wouldn't hit the guy below. And when he did, he went off the ladder head first."

Kem says her husband fell several feet, his spinal cord bruised by the fall and the impact of the wrench hitting him

Now, his head is bound with more than a dozen stitches and has a hard time waking up.

She says she does not blame anyone, and says his company -- Thermal Equipment -- has helped the family.

"It was a split second decision," Kem said. "But would he change it? Probably not, because he saved somebody else."

A benefit ride is coming up to raise money for Jason's medical bills.
