FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky made history Tuesday as the longest-serving republican leader in senate history.
The senate majority leader surpasses former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas, who was in office from from 1985 to 1996.
McConnell, who took office in 1985, is also Kentucky's longest-serving senator.
And the 76-year-old doesn't plan to step down soon, already planning his 2020 run.
