Another Louisville Food Worker Tests Positive For Hepatitis A

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE3) — A Jimmy Johns Restaurant worker in Louisville has tested positive for hepatitis A, health officials said.

WAVE3 reports here the Jefferson County Department of Health said Tuesday that anyone who at the Jimmy Johns at 332 W. Broadway could have been exposed.

The worker was there from May 31 to June 6.

Hepatitis a symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Decreased appetite
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Darkened urine
  • Pale stools
  • Jaundice

Hepatitis A is most commonly spread by eating or putting an object in your mouth which was in contact with an infected person's feces. Vigorous hand washing for all hospitality employees is strongly encouraged to stop the spread of disease.

The store owner released the following statement: 

“An employee in one of our Louisville stores has tested positive for Hepatitis A, following a recent outbreak in the state. Upon learning of this case, we immediately began working with the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness to ensure there was no further risk of exposure at our store. The infected individual will remain at home until fully cleared by doctors to return to work, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely. The health and safety of our customers is our top priority." Zach Irie, Store Owner

    LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Four people were injured in a crash early Friday morning. It happened around 2:30 a.m. on Old Paris Road near Strawberry Fields Road. Police say an SUV went off the road into the grass, took out a tree, and flipped. Three people were ejected, and one person was cut from the SUV.  All adult passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

    BEREA, Ky. (LEX 18) - Friday marked five years since a Madison County teen disappeared after attending a party. 18-year-old Brookelyn Farthing was last seen at a house in Berea. She texted family members saying she wanted to come home, but would catch a ride with a friend. Brookelyn's sister also said she sent a few messages saying she felt "unsafe."
