Judge With Ky. Ties On President Trump's Supreme Court List

WASHINGTON, D.C. (LEX 18) - A Kentucky federal judge is among the many candidates to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy after his retirement.

The 81-year-old Kennedy said in a statement he is stepping down after more than 30 years on the court. A Republican appointee, he has held the key vote on such high-profile issues as abortion, affirmative action, gay rights, guns, campaign finance and voting rights.

On a list of potential replacements, President Donald Trump wrote that Judge Amul Thapar, of the US Court of Appeal for the Sixth Circuit, was among those he would be considering.

Thapar was also the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky. 

Here are the rest of the candidates that was issued by President Trump in 2017. He told reporters today that he would select his next replacement from the same list:
