BARDSTOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — The damaged rickhouse at the Barton 1792 distillery fully collapsed Wednesday afternoon.

Nelson County dispatch said the new collapse happened about 2:20 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The rickhouse partially collapsed June 22. At that time Nelson County Emergency Management spokesman Milt Spalding said about 9,000 barrels filled with aging bourbon were affected.

The rickhouse was holding about 18,000 barrels. Investigators had been trying to determine the safety of the standing portion of the building.

It was not clear what caused the collapse.

Bardstown Fire Chief Billy Mattingly says that with all the alcohol from the bourbon spill, fireworks will be banned in the Maple Hill subdivision and Highway 62 near Dump Hill.

Photos were provided by the Bardstown Fire Department.
