Forkland Community Center Hosting Clean Up Day Today

Posted: Updated:

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- A Boyle County community center is hosting a public cleanup day Thursday to help repair flood damage.

The Forkland Community Center was badly damaged two weeks ago when flash flooding dumped feet of water into the basement.

In those weeks, professional cleaners have come in to get the water out, but there is still much work to be done.

Board members with the center say insurance covered the cost for clean-up in the main building, but now they have to tackle cleaning everything that was inside and outside of that building.

The work that needs to be done includes cleaning furniture, washing dishes, painting, and moving items in and out of the building.

They're in a hurry to get everything back to normal so they can start preparing for their biggest event of the year in October.

One board member says it was heartbreaking to all see the damage in the building that means so much to generations in his community.

"That's really all it's about, keeping this school going to keep the heritage alive and keep that spirit going within the people that went to school here," said Jordan Hourigan.

Volunteers can come by to help anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you can't make it today, the center says they will be hosting other clean-up days in the near future.
