Poor People's Campaign Allowed In State Capitol As A Group

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky (LEX 18) After being denied access into the State Capitol as a group over the last several weeks, the Poor People's Campaign finally made it in together on Tuesday.

They were checked in like any other guest, whereas in the past, they were told they could only go in groups of two. This led to the group rallying in the waiting area, but they got in easily on Tuesday.

The Poor People's Campaign was at the Capitol on June 4, to protest Medicaid work requirements and other issues when they say that they were told they could only enter the Capitol building two at a time. They claim that the same security change rule was not being enforced with other groups.

They walked over to Governor Matt Bevin's office to hand him a list of grievances, but it was there that they ran into another roadblock. They were told that they were not allowed inside the governor's office without an appointment.
