Making A Difference: Foster Care Council Creates "Studio Thrifty For The Kids" Boutique

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) A new resource for foster families is set to open in Lexington. Studio Thrifty For The Kids is a disco-themed boutique-style store where foster parents can bring their foster children to shop for clothes and other items at no cost.

"There's so many families, so many kids that need clothing," said Cassie Sloane, the executive director of the Foster Care Council.

The new groovy boutique Studio Thrifty For The Kids is on Richmond Road. It is fully stocked with cool clothes and basic necessities for children from infants up to 18-years-old. The clothes are available to all of them free of charge by the Forster Care Council.

"It's a unique shopping experience for these children, most of the time their first shopping experience," said Sloane.

They hope that the shop provides foster kids with a special experience and a sense of normalcy by sending them home set up for success.

Because of that, shopping will be done by appointment only and it will not be open to the public.

"Having clean clothes that you look and feel good in is just super important, at that age especially," said Lindy Hester with the Foster Care Council.

So whether it's a first-day of school outfit, or a new pair of shoes, they want foster kids to shop their hearts out and celebrate the good times at Studio Thrifty For The Kids.

The boutique is in the Idle Hour shopping center on Richmond Road behind the Penn Station.  The address is 2121 Richmond Road #105 Lexington, Ky 40502.  Their number is (859) 333-3527.

They are holding an open house on August 29. No shopping will be done but it's an opportunity for the community to come by and check out the work they're doing.

To make an appointment, contact Lindy or Cassie at lindy@thefostercarecouncil.com, cassie@thefostercarecouncil.com, or go their Facebook page here.

They are looking for donations of new and gently used clothing and other necessities for kids from infancy to age 18. Donations will need to be made by appointment only to secure privacy for the foster families.

There are two fundraising opportunities coming up to help. One on September 10, the BC Wood Properties Golf Classic. There is another on October 19, the Lasso-a-Dream Fundraiser

They are also looking for silent and live auction donations.
