(LEX 18) — The Salvation Army has announced they will accept Apple and Google Pay at Red Kettle locations. As America moves more and more away from cash purchases, the organization is adapting.
There will be smart chips and QR codes on red Kettle signs across Lexington and Nicholasville. Shoppers only need to bump their phones against the kettle and they will be directed to a page on their phone to make a donation.
This new technology will then disperse the funds to the Salvation Army based on the zip code affiliated with your pay app.
Donations are accepted at any of the more than 25,000 traditional Red Kettles found on street corners and in front of stores, online at Give.SalvationArmyUSA.org, or on your phone by texting KETTLE to 91999.
