ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — American Legion Post 79 has been shut down until further notice after apparent threats were made towards state and local legion officials.

Kentucky State Police and internal affairs are handling the investigation, and post 79 will not be opened until the investigation is concluded.

Commander for the Son's of American Legion Bobby Gentry tells LEX 18 that every month, they have some sort of organized thing for the veterans and their families.

"Everybody talked about the American Legion, helping everybody. and the community helped us," said Gentry.

He said that he helped rebuild the place after a storm tore it apart in 2016, and he hopes it will open soon.
