LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - — A photo appearing to show a large snake slowly making its way down a tree in a Lexington subdivision is actually a photo of a black rat snake. Even though you may not like the idea of a slithering serpent in your neighborhood, this one is a pretty good one to have around.

Residents of the Blackford Oaks Subdivision can breathe a sigh of relief. The snake in question, although large, is non-venomous and will help keep the neighborhood free of small rodents.

LEX 18 was sent a photo of the snake, so we reached out LFUCG's Animal control. They confirm they were contacted by concerned neighbors.

"That is a black rat snake, very common wildlife. If residents feel (removal is) necessary, they will need to contact a nuisance animal removal company," a spokesperson told LEX 18.
