WHEATCROFT, Ky. (AP) — Police are investigating a crash that killed four people in western Kentucky. State Police say the accident occurred Saturday when a car slid into the oncoming lane and collided with a pickup truck on Kentucky Route 109 in Wheatcroft. A statement says the car that hydroplaned was driven by 23-year-old Eduardo Lopez of Madisonville. Lopez and three passengers in the car, Jorge Chavez, Miguel Brico, and Christina Chavez, all of Madisonville, were pronounced dead at the scene.
MONTEREY, Ky. (AP) — Authorities say a Kentucky court security officer has been arrested after a passenger on an ATV he was driving died in a crash. Kentucky State Trooper Steven Dykes says Mario Chavez-Canela of Monterey was arrested Friday on charges of second-degree assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The State Journal reports he rejoined the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office earlier this year. He had been fired in August 2016 by a previous sheriff after a DUI arrest.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A man who failed to appear in a Kentucky court on kidnapping and other federal charges has been captured. FBI spokesman Timothy Beam in Louisville says Bryan Douglas Conley was caught Saturday in Ada, Ohio. News outlets report Conley was originally arrested in January on charges that he kidnapped a Brentwood, Tennessee, woman and demanded a ransom from her parents. The FBI says Conley removed a monitoring device Friday and failed to appear in federal court on a superseding indictment.
OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky bourbon distillery says efforts to recover thousands of barrels of bourbon is underway at a storage warehouse that partially collapsed during a thunderstorm. O.Z. Tyler Distillery in Owensboro says a section of the warehouse has been “successfully deconstructed” and the painstaking process of recovering the barrels is moving ahead. The parital collapse occurred during a storm Monday and no one was hurt.
