(AP) — Kumar Rocker limited Michigan to three hits and struck out 11 in 6 1/3 innings and Vanderbilt capitalized against the Wolverines’ shaky bullpen in a 4-1 win in Game 2 of the College World Series finals. The Commodores forced a winner-take-all Game 3 on Wednesday night. The Commodores picked up an unearned run in the fifth inning and Jack Weisenberger let in two runs on wild pitches on back-to-back batters.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Former West Virginia guard Trey Doomes is transferring to Chattanooga. Doomes will seek an NCAA waiver that would enable him to play for Chattanooga immediately rather than sitting out the 2019-20 season. Doomes played 12 games for West Virginia as a freshman in the 2018-19 season. He averaged 2.2 points and 0.9 rebounds.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — UCLA softball player Rachel Garcia has earned the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year award. Garcia was presented with the Honda Cup in a ceremony at Galen Center on the USC campus on Monday night. She led UCLA to its 13th national championship, going 9-0 during the Women’s College World Series. The other finalists were basketball player Megan Gustafson of Iowa and swimmer Lilly King of Indiana.
