FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — Gov. Matt Bevin held a campaign event Thursday to point out his gubernatorial opponent Andy Beshear 's ties to an individual who owns Kentucky's sole abortion clinic.

Following a fundraiser in Louisville, Bevin talked to reporters about max campaign contributions from the owner of EMW Women's Surgical Center to the current Attorney General's campaign. He carried an image illustrating individuals who had donated to his campaign, including a doctor who works at the clinic.

Governor Bevin also pointed out what he claimed was the AG's refusal to defend Kentucky's Heartbeat Law.

“Andy Beshear’s extreme stance on abortion is grossly out of line with the values of Kentuckians, and now he is proudly accepting blood money, earned from the murder of innocent, unborn children, to fund his floundering campaign,” said Gov. Bevin. “Andy Beshear is the most liberal candidate for governor in the history of Kentucky and has a track record of accepting tainted money to further his family's political agenda, but this is a shameless new low even for a Beshear."

When asked to comment on the explosion in Lincoln County, Governor Bevin called the event a tragedy but pointed out that that isn't why he called a press conference and steered the topic back to Beshear.

Attorney General Beshear's campaign released a statement on the conference, "Yesterday, we learned that the Bevin administration failed to secure a bond that would have guaranteed the Blackjewel miners were paid. This morning Matt Bevin is lashing out and desperately trying to distract from his own incompetence. His press stunt this morning was unhinged and erratic. Coupled with his comments on suicides yesterday, his behavior demonstrates that he is not fit to be the governor of Kentucky. Reasonable and good people can disagree on choice—his outlandish language is dangerous and unacceptable."
