BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Boone County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a middle school student who allegedly threatened to "shoot up" the school.

Reportedly deputies were notified on Saturday evening that a 13-year-old male student who attends Jones Middle School told another student that he was going to "shoot up the school with guns."

Deputies say the student also said that his target was going to be the "popular kids and teachers" at Jones Middle School.

The threats were reported and deputies acted quickly to make contact with the student at his home.

Deputies say the student later admitted to making the threats, telling investigators that his plan was delayed until he could obtain a bullet proof vest. He reportedly told deputies he was upset over recently being suspended after getting into a fight at school. Deputies say the student did not have immediate access to weapons.

The teen was charged with Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony. He was taken into custody on Saturday night and lodged at the Campbell County Juvenile Detention Center per a judge’s order.
