LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A person has died following a crash on I-75 southbound Sunday night in Lexington.
The Fayette County Coroner's Office has identified 84-year-old Thomas Mollencop as the victim of the crash. His death has been ruled as an accident.
Lexington police received a report of a wrong-way driver near the 110 mile-marker of I-75 southbound around 9 p.m. Sunday. While officers were on their way, police say a three-vehicle collision occurred near mile marker 111.
Mollencop, who was the wrong-way driver, was declared dead at the scene. Police say they believed Mollencop was suffering from a medical emergency.
An 18-year-old male in the second car was taken to the hospital and he is in critical condition.
Police say there are no reported injuries from the occupants of the third vehicle.
The collision is currently under investigation by the Lexington Police Department Collision Reconstruction Unit.
