SOMERSET, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Briar Jumper's football stadium renovation project is expected to be finished and ready for Friday's game.

The $2.5 million project, which includes improvements to other facilities, landed Somerset some national attention. Athletic Director Bob Tucker told LEX 18's Michael Berk that he never thought Somerset's stadium would look the way it does now. The project was years in the making, and caught the attention of a national online high school sports service.

More than 5,000 people are expected to attend Friday's season-opener.

"I kinda thinks it looks a little like UK's field or Boise State with the purple ring around it. The colors really pop. I like what they did with it," said Somerset senior Jace Bruner, who is one of the players who will debut the new surface.

The Somerset community sold bonds to cover the cost of the new football field, along with the revamping of the aquatic center. They hope to reitre the bond debt in six years.
