CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The sickly dog found in a cage along a Clark County road Friday morning has died.
The Clark County animal shelter says a passerby spotted the dog in the kennel with a blanket and food beside Ruckerville Road. They tell us the pup appeared to have an ongoing skin condition and was unable to stand on its own.
The dog was sent to the veterinarian, and the shelter started a fundraiser to cover the cost of the dog's care. In an update to Facebook today, the shelter says the dog passed away early this morning.
In the post, shelter officials stressed the importance of finding someone responsible to care for sick animals.
"The most important thing to take away from this is that it is NEVER okay to abandon an animal! We certainly understand that not everyone has the financial resources to provide unexpected vet care or maybe the knowledge to manage common conditions HOWEVER everyone should know that we have an animal shelter that accept all animals from our county regardless of health or other issues."
"There is no reason for an animal to be abandoned in a county with an open admission shelter like ours. We are open Tuesday through Saturday to accept animals."
The shelter is still accepting tips on whoever left the dog. If you have any tips on the case, contact them at (859) 737-0053.
