LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Officials said two people were treated for smoke inhalation issues after a fire broke out early Friday morning at apartments on the Lexington's south side.

Authorities said calls came in just after 4 a.m. reporting the blaze at the Mansion Apartments in the 3800 block of Nicholasville Road.

Fire officials said crews battled smoke and flames but quickly got the upper hand. Crews remained on the scene to ensure there are no flareups.

Authorities tell LEX 18 that two people were transported to an area hospital for treatment after complaining of problems from smoke inhalation. Neither case appeared to be life-threatening, officials said.

Crews also treated a pet cat at the scene with oxygen.

Officials said a fire investigator was requested at the scene as the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
