LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Sunday the Chinese New Year was celebrated at the Lexington Opera House.

The celebration was put on by the Kentucky Chinese American Association (KCAA) and included dances, poetry, and juggling.

Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus, several Chinese New Year celebrations around the world were canceled.

"This year it is a little bit different in China because of the virus, so Chinese people just stay at home," said Plly Pang, who is visiting Lexington from China, and says she is grateful she gets to celebrate here in America.

Jay Li grew up in Lexington, but has since moved away. He said he's happy his hometown does celebrations like this because it gives him a chance to share his Chinese culture with others. "It just gives people an opportunity to learn more about the culture., and it showcases what's great about China."
