LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– For six years, a Lexington man has made Halloween a special day for his daughter, by creating awesome Disney themed costumes for her.
Haleigh was born with a subarachnoid cyst, which has damaged her brain. Her dad, Ralph “Poke” Gayheart, says that every Halloween gives Haleigh the chance to be normal and for people to look at her in awe.
She also defied the odds with each passing Halloween.
“Her initial time frame was 10 years of age. She’s now 12,” said Ralph. “Unless it wasn’t for the good Lord and her mama, she wouldn’t be here right now.”
This year, Ralph spent three weeks building her an amazing ‘Alice in Wonderland’ costume.
“I want to do what’s right for her. I don’t want to half-way it. Want to do it all the way because she deserves it,” said Ralph. “Every year she’s here with me, I guess I’ll build another one!”
