LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– For 64 years, the Blue Grass Kiwanis Club has been flipping flapjacks and sizzling sausage for a good cause.

“We have people that come year after year. We have people that come from other clubs, other cities, we have a table over here from people who have come in from Frankfort,” said Frank Marion of the Blue Grass Kiwanis Club.

The chapter was started back in 1952 and their annual pancake fundraiser followed shortly. Each year, through the power of pancakes, the club raises thousands of dollars to help buy shoes, and now socks, for Fayette County school children.

“This year, we give out about 350 tennis shoes, new tennis shoes, to Fayette County school children,” said Marion.

The Kiwanis Club partners with schools to identify kids whose feet are in need of a little extra love and then deliver those brand new sneakers.

“We had a member this year who delivered shoes to one of the schools and there was actually a student there who put the shoes on right then and that was a good feeling for him,” said Marion.

For $7, you can eat all the pancakes and sausages you want and you can drink all the coffee and juice you want.

The event will be held at Calvary Baptist Church until 7 p.m. tonight.
