LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Often overlooked during the holidays, senior citizens aren’t immune to the Christmas blues, but there’s a local program that gives you the opportunity to play Santa.

“Everybody needs holiday cheer and we wanted to spread it to the seniors,” said Meg Musgrave of Home Instead Senior Care.

In fact, many seniors spend much of the year alone, making the holidays an especially lonely time.

“During this time of year, we understand there are some that are financially challenged and may not have family either living or near them,” said Musgrave.

You can enter the Be A Santa to a Senior program, put on by Home Instead Senior Care. They make sure that senior citizens in need feel the love at Christmas.

In Lexington, there are about 300 seniors that are on the tree this year.

Their needs are simple items like blankets, puzzles, toiletries, and small gifts that won’t break the bank but will definitely make their day.

All you have to do is visit the tree on Reynold’s Road in Lexington and pick your senior. For just a few bucks, you get to play Santa and light up someone’s life.

The tree is at the Home Instead Senior Care at 207 East Reynolds Road Suite 150. Their phone number is (859) 273-0085. You will need to buy the gifts and have them wrapped and brought to Home Instead by December 3rd.
