LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The third annual Ed Lane Memorial Holiday Dinner Giveaway is coming up, and you can nominate a deserving family.

Ed Lane was a prominent member of the Lexington community as both a councilman and business leader, but perhaps, an even more prominent patron of Red State BBQ.

Owner David Carroll saw Lane frequently as he dined at the Georgetown Road location. When Lane died in 2015, there was a noticeable difference.

“You have customers when you walked out in the dining room, it’s always good to see them,” said Carroll.

Not long after his death, Lane’s daughter, Meredith, stopped in for a bite to eat and the idea was born. Red State BBQ would start a giveaway in Lane’s name to give back to the community he served so diligently.

For the third Christmas, they will give away turkey dinners with all the fixings to deserving families nominated by people in their community.

“It could be a family that’s maybe had a rough time, but also it could be a family that’s great with the community, they do a lot of stuff with the community, they help out, they’re good neighbors,” said Carroll.

It is a special way to honor a man and his love for good barbecue and the Bluegrass.

Donates or nominations for the Ed Lane Memorial Holiday Dinner Giveaway can be emailed to nominations@redstatebbq.com. For more information about the Ed Lane Memorial, you can call 859-233-7898.
