God's Pantry Food Bank and Feeding America are teaming up with local Starbucks restaurants to deliver food to those in need.

A representative from God's Pantry tells us that in America about 72 billion pounds of food are wasted, while 40 million Americans are in need of food. "There's just a lot of food waste out there, and with such a great need, it's awful," says Danielle Bozarth, The Director of Services at God's Pantry.

It's statistics like that, that helped launch a partnership where God's Pantry employees pick up unused ready-to-eat-meals from eight participating Lexington area Starbucks and delivers them to people in need.

This program is providing more than 1,700 pound of food per month, or the equivalent of more than 1350 meals in Central and Eastern Kentucky.

Food items include bistro boxes, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, salads, yogurts, and high-quality baked goods.

Along with donating food Starbucks also volunteers local employees to participate in repackaging items at the food bank.
