Dozens of malnourished horses rescued in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Dozens of horses were rescued in Wayne County on Friday after the owner was arrested.

53-year-old Jacqueline Helton is charged with 44 counts of animals cruelty after officials found dead and malnourished horses at the farm, according to court records.

The Kentucky Humane Society reports that Kentucky State Police troopers found four horses dead and more than 40 lives horses on the farm, many in bad shape.

The Kentucky Humane Society's Equine Care Team, KSP, the Department of Agriculture, and the Office of the State Veterinarian worked together on the rescue operation.
