LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The next few days are going to be hot and the city of Lexington wants its workers to stay safe.

To help avoid the heat, trash collectors will be out earlier in the morning this week. So you'll have to make sure your bin makes it out in time.

With high temperatures expected over the next few days, residents are going to have to take their trash out a little earlier in the day. Trash collection will start a couple hours ahead of schedule tomorrow and Friday. commercial routes will begin at 3 a.m. and residential routes will start at 4 a.m.

"We just want to keep our employees safe and minimize their exposure to such extreme temperatures," Angela Poe, the Senior Program Manager of Environmental Quality and Public Works told LEX 18.

Waste collectors typically work a ten-hour shift, so with the time change, officials are hoping they can be done by the afternoon and avoid the worst of the heat.
