FLEMING COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A gas pipeline exploded on Monday in Fleming County.

The explosion occurred in Hillsboro. According to firefighters, nobody was hurt and the explosion occurred in a secluded area. It is still unknown what caused the explosion.

Photos sent in by LEX 18 viewers show flames shooting over the treeline and smoke can be seen for miles.

Tommy Lambert lives close to where the explosion occurred.

"We heard a loud rumble," Lambert reflected. "It reminded us of an earthquake in the 1980s we once had."

After the rumble, Lambert went outside to see if he could see where the loud rumble came from. When he got outside, he saw smoke.

"I've lived here for almost 60 years and I knew immediately it was a pipeline explosion," Lambert said.

Lambert recently received a letter from a gas company notifying him of upcoming work on the pipeline. Firefighters confirmed that work had been ongoing.
