It’s comeback time for Felicity Huffman. The actor has bagged her first role since being released from prison more than a year ago.

Huffman will play a widow who inherits her late husband’s minor league baseball team. The ABC comedy series, set in California, doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s being written by Becky Hartman Edwards, and “The Peanut Butter Falcon” star Zack Gottsagen will play Huffman’s son.

The TV series was inspired by Susan Savage, the owner of Triple-A baseball team the Sacramento River Cats, E! reported. The team was victorious under Savage, and in 2016 was declared to be the minor league’s most valuable franchise with an estimated worth of $49 million.

Huffman, 57, plead guilty to charges of mail fraud and honest services mail fraud in May 2019 and served 11 days out of a 14-day sentence in October. As one of many parents accused of paying for their children’s admission into elite schools in the college admissions scandal the FBI’s “Operation Varsity Blues” cracked open, the “Desperate Housewives” star admitted to paying $15,000 to have an SAT proctor administer her daughter’s exam.

In a letter to the judge handling her case, Huffman wrote, “As painful as this has been, I am truly grateful for the lessons I have learned and for opportunity to change and live more honestly,” she wrote. “I am now focusing on repairing my relationship with my daughter, my family and making amends to my community.”

In addition to her prison sentence, Huffman received one year of probation and was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service, and had to pay a $30,000 fine.

The actress has a long history with ABC. Besides her most well-known role as Lynette Scavo in “Desperate Housewives,” for which she won an Emmy, she has starred in the comedy “Sports Night” and drama series “American Crime.”
