LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The organizers of Lexington's first ever Coffee and Tea Week want to introduce people to new places and flavors.

The event runs through Sunday and includes 21 coffee shops, according to co-host Jacqueline Benson. Each shop has signature drinks created for the event available for $3.

"This is a friendly nudge to say, 'hey there’s more places to explore in Lexington,'" Benson said.

Benson and her co-host Eric Novak said they hope to support local businesses by encouraging people to step out of their normal coffee routine.

"There’s places that you’ve never tried," Novak said. "There’s people that you’ve never met. Go out there, make a friend and get a drink."

It's a challenge that many people have accepted with some coffee shops selling out of their special drinks.

At Common Grounds Coffee House on East High Street, signature drinks include a bourbon barrel cold brew and a 'Kentucky Mist' described as Kentucky black tea with steamed milk.

"We’ve been trying to plan, you know, what time can we go today?" customer Mackenzie Humphrey said.

She's tried two new coffee shops this week and plans to try more.

"Everyone loves coffee," Humphrey said.
