According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, students who have physical education as part of their daily schedules can increase their level of physical activity, improve their grades and test scores, and stay focused on tasks in class.

Unfortunately, with most kids at home now due to the COVID-19 outbreak, exercise is limited. Not only are they missing out on P.E. class, but in most areas, they can’t even burn off steam at an indoor trampoline park, the playground or with friends in the neighborhood.

The Body Coach To The Rescue

Joe Wicks is an English fitness coach with a degree in sports science, five years of experience as a personal trainer and three years of experience as an online nutrition coach. He describes himself as someone with a distinctive purpose.

“I’m a man on a mission to rescue people from the awful dieting industry,” he says on his website.

But these days, he has another mission — helping kids who are stuck at home stay fit. Wicks announced that as of March 23, he would be posting live 30-minute workouts just for students every morning, effectively becoming “the nation’s P.E. teacher.”

In the first workout video, Wicks explains that he has been visiting schools in the U.K. for four years trying to inspire young people to exercise. In fact, he was supposed to go back on tour this week. He decided to livestream workouts on YouTube instead.

So far, the results have been impressive. Hundreds of thousands of people have watched and, hopefully, participated.

“Just completed day one of #pewithjoe and we had 806k households tuned in,” he shared in this Instagram post on the first day.

You can stream the live classes or watch them when it’s convenient for you and your kids on his YouTube channel, The Body Coach TV. While you’re there, you might want to check out his library of workout videos for the grownup set, as well.

Stay active, everyone!
